How to sharpen knives quickly on any hair clipper
There are several ways to sharpen hairdressing machines. At the same time, various equipment and materials are used. These include:
- Professional sharpening kit.
- Lathe.
- Sander.
- Kitchen whetstone.
- Sandpaper.
The procedure for sharpening blades
Sharpening knives of hairdressing machines is carried out in several stages:
- Removing and preparing blades for sharpening.
- Sharpening and grinding knives.
- Processing sharpened parts.
- Assembly of the knife block.
- Test haircut.
- The final setup of the knives.
Before performing work, carefully prepare the workplace. Provide the necessary level of convenience and lighting. Lay out in places all the necessary tools and materials.
Clean and lubricate the knife blades after each cut. This will help ensure long-term operation of the device.
Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, remove the fixing screws of the knife block. The removed parts are laid aside or put in a separate box. Carefully remove the upper (movable) and lower (fixed) knives.

Use only specialized oil to lubricate blades and other moving parts. In some cases, machine or spindle oil may be used. It is strictly forbidden to use vegetable oil!
Using a dry cloth, the blades are wiped dry and dried in a warm place. After processing and lubricating the rubbing surfaces, the machine is assembled in the reverse order.

Sharpening blades with a knife sharpening kit
Professional sharpening kits are available at specialized stores.
The kit includes the following components:
- grinder;
- protective machine cover;
- double-sided aluminum disc (plan washer);
- special composition for cleaning discs and knives;
- special composition for lubricating the blade and knives;
- whetstone for even distribution of abrasive;
- magnetic holder;
- abrasive powder;
- laser pointer;
- brush or brush.
The order of work on the grinding machine is as follows.
The washer is previously cleaned of dust and debris using a sponge. Using a spray gun or sponge, a lubricant is applied to the surface of the disc.
For your own safety, do not use cars with a broken power cable, damage to housing elements, etc. All identified damage must be repaired at specialized service centers.
A piece of tissue is rubbed oil over the entire surface of the disk. In this way, all the bumps on the surface of the plan washer are filled. A soft brush evenly distributes a thin layer of abrasive powder over the surface of the disk. Circular movements of the bar rub the abrasive into the surface of the disk.

Sharpening blades with a grindstone
The use of a double-sided bar helps to sharpen the blade of the clipper. One surface of such a bar is intended for rough sharpening of knives. The other surface is used for grinding pre-ground surfaces. The width of the bar is taken equal to or greater than the width of the cutting elements.
The blade during operation is moved in the longitudinal and transverse directions along the entire surface of the stone. The movements are performed smoothly and without pressure.
In models with ceramic blades, only diamond-coated whetstones must be used.
The final lapping is carried out on the other side of the bar. The work is carried out until a characteristic reflection on the ground surface appears. Then the remnants of the metal and abrasive powder are removed.
Lathe sharpening
To sharpen parts on lathes, replace the abrasive wheel with an aluminum disk. The working surface of the disk is cleaned from dust and dirt. A thin layer of diamond paste is applied to the cleaned surface.
Set the necessary speed of rotation of the disk and turn on the machine. The optimal speed of rotation of the disk is from 1200 to 1500 revolutions per minute.
At the end of the work, the grinding disc and machined blades are cleaned of dust. Treated parts are washed in a special solution.
Sharpening blades on a grinder
For sharpening cutting parts, two types of equipment are used:
- with an emery (grinding) wheel;
- tape (with sandpaper).
In the first case, the process is similar to the process of working on professional equipment. The main disadvantage of models with this design is the inability to adjust the speed of rotation of the disk. Therefore, such a tool is used for rough sharpening parts.
To restore the operation of the machine in the event of mechanical damage or removal of teeth helps regrinding. Such work is performed in a specialized workshop using professional equipment.
The grinding belt machine has a fairly wide and even working plane. During operation, the machine is turned upside down with the work plane. Using various stops and clamps, the equipment is fixed in the same position.
Some craftsmen invented the possibility of placing the machine on the side surface. To do this, lay on a typewriter a sheet of clean white paper. They outline the contours and determine the location of the holes of the fastening bolts.
Impose a sheet of paper with a drawn outline on a sheet of plywood. Based on the markup obtained, holes are made. Insert the bolts into the holes and fix them with nuts.
The machine is mounted on bolts and is in a fixed position. This ensures the convenience and control of sharpening at every stage of work.
Sanding Blades
This method allows you to sharpen any blade at home. This will require sandpaper and a fairly flat surface. This is achieved through the use of a piece of plywood, organic or quartz glass.
The graininess of the paper at the stage of rough grinding is taken equal to 30-40 microns. For final grinding, paper with a grain of 5 to 10 microns is used.
A sheet of plywood or a piece of glass with sandpaper is laid on a table or knees. In circular smooth movements, they alternately sharpen the blades. Sharpening is carried out until a characteristic sheen appears.
Knives adjustment
To ensure the normal operation of the knives, their mutual position is adjusted in the longitudinal and transverse planes. To do this, install and slightly tighten the fixing screws of the knife block. By pressing the blades, their relative position in the transverse plane is regulated.
To prevent rust, do not handle the blades with water. Use alcohol or special helium-based compounds.
The adjustment is considered completed if the line of the cutting edge of the teeth of the movable knife is 1-2 mm below the line of the teeth of the fixed blade.
In this case, a slight slope of the cut line of the teeth of the movable knife relative to the upper cut of the teeth of the fixed knife should be ensured.
The adjustment of the knives in the longitudinal direction is ensured by the coincidence of the cutting edge of the extreme left tooth of the upper blade with the beginning of a row of lower teeth.
At the end of the adjustment, the fixing screws are fully tightened.
