When the compressor wedges in the refrigerator, many sin either on the relay or on the engine itself. Jamming is possible for a variety of reasons: long downtime without work is the most common of them. However, despite the fact that the symptoms of a burned motor winding and a jammed compressor are almost the same, in the case of a wedge, the wedging procedure is quite simple.
Compressor in the refrigerator: device features
You should start by checking, the correct algorithm for checking the motor is an important part of working with refrigerator motors. The surest way is to check the motor with a working relay. If there is none, then you can check by measuring the resistance of the windings.
In order to do this, it is necessary to put the multimeter in position 2 kOhm and check.
On the example of this motor, which we used, it turns out 42 Ohms one resistance; 11.7 - the second resistance. Thus, we can conclude that the engine should function normally. After this, you should find the resistance table and finally determine whether the main component is operational.
We should not forget that it is necessary to find a common point (in our country it corresponded to 53.3 ohms).
Refrigerator Relay: Features
The motor start relay is called the start-up relay of the compressor, the refrigerator.
In such cases, the main task of this unit is to snap the engine off the network. The connection of this component is done so that there is no overload (burnout): so that the winding of the refrigerator does not light up, so that the socket does not burn. The voltage is quite large. If you leave the connection for a long time directly, in working condition, then with high probability the winding can catch fire. That is why it is better to use relay from the refrigerator it is with such an engine, because it is usually designed for power consumed by the motor.
In modern components, clipping is not provided, i.e. network protection from a burned-out winding.
There is a thermocouple (posistor), this element cuts off the starting winding with an increase in resistance. However, most devices do not contain a special tungsten spring.
When the motor winding is closed, this tungsten spring should heat up and cut off the system from the mains. That is why it is advisable not to install cutters that do not contain a spring. However, you can use them on the motors inside which the cutoffs are installed.
How can I start without a relay and what is it for? Instruction manual
In order to start jammed engines, we need an ordinary two-wire cable that can carry 220 volts, with a plug for a household outlet on one end and two contacts on the other.
One contact should be inserted at the common point, the second at the point of the working winding. We need a device that can close the contacts, most often they use an ordinary screwdriver (the screwdriver will work instead of the start relay). We connect the contacts of the working and starting windings with a screwdriver, after which the design should be included in the outlet. After that, the device starts to work. If in such cases it does not start, then either the motor is faulty or the cable is 220 V.
It happens that the windings are burnt, or the compressor is simply jammed. And then the situation is somewhat different.
Very often, refrigerators are brought to the masters and to the services, which turn on for only 5-10 seconds (occasionally it works up to 30 seconds - minutes). In such cases, the diagnostic procedure is as follows: the motor is connected directly. It is imperative to monitor the condition of the wiring, check for heat. In case of excessive heat, the circuit should be opened immediately.
The device is connected directly, after which it is necessary to carefully monitor how the refrigerator freezes (both in the freezer and in the refrigerator). From this we can conclude - you need a simple replacement of the motor, or you need to do something else. Most often, compressors do not burn out just like that, they burn because of something: because of overvoltage (the most positive outcome, because it just requires replacing the motor and refueling), because of a clogged capillary (not only replacement, but also cleaning it’s easy to diagnose - a clogged “capillary” has a place to be with an overheated condenser).
If the refrigerator freezes well, then just replace the engine; if during an hour of cold it doesn’t appear anywhere (or the freezer, for example, is frozen, and there is no cold in the refrigerator), then the issue is either a leak or a clogged capillary system. Also, the motors can burn from a faulty thermostat (the thermostat does not turn off the refrigerator during the time and the device works for a very long time). This happens quite often. However, be that as it may, for a complete diagnosis, it is advisable to connect the motor directly according to the instructions that we posted above.
