Plates with glass ceramic hob They are popular: they have heat indicators, are easy to operate, and easy to care for. But often due to severe mechanical damage or due to prolonged glowing, defects such as cracks and scratches occur. The amount of damage can be different - from an inconspicuous crack to cracks that occupy the entire surface area.
Such defects carry a danger, namely:
- lead to malfunctions in the operation of the device;
- incandescent temperature rises;
- external technology data is corrupted;
- faults can increase, which will lead to complete destruction of the glass-ceramic layer;
- the stove can let electric current through and hit a person.
Causes of damage to the hob
If faults were found on the hob, then these factors were preceded:
- A sharp, strong touch on the surface of any objects. For example, you can drop a heavy pan, which is a common cause of breakage of glass ceramics. The fault will have the form of a hole in the center where the impact occurred and branching of cracks.
- The stove was very hot due to the long work of several burners, which worked at full power. Usually the defect appears with a bang and can creep in different directions.
- It happens when the stove was not installed correctly, and the powerful voltage supplied to the appliance destroys the hob. The surface begins to crack from the central part, after which the defects diverge, having sharp corners.
- Point damage, such as a knife falling.
- Tearing off dishes that have stuck. For example, a pan or pan was placed on a sticky, uncleaned hob. When heated, the dishes stick, and they can only be torn off with a piece of glass ceramics.
- Runaway jam and sugar syrup are very difficult to remove from the stove. In contact with the surface, heated sugar penetrates the structure of the glass-ceramic material. When cleaning the plate, surface damage occurs, chips appear.
Important! The last two reasons are caused by manufacturing defects and non-compliance with the rules when assembling the model. Common cases when the surface is mounted very close to the edges, and during the process of glowing, it bursts.
It should be remembered that faulty equipment powered by electricity is dangerous for any use. There are such rules where safety must be observed:
- Any cooking on panels that have burst should be avoided;
- Means for cleaning hob surfaces must be specially designed;
- It is not recommended to touch metal dishes with wet hands, there is a risk of electric shock;
- Do-it-yourself repairs can cause a short circuit.
What to do if a breakdown such as cracks and scratches occurs?
To get rid of such troubles as a large chip or crack, it will be safer to replace the hob with a new one. Leaving everything as it is is also an inappropriate option, because the integrity of the equipment is violated, and a chip can turn into a big fault. Gluing a panel with your own hands is the most economical way.To do this, you need a material that will hold the strength of glass ceramics and will not allow the cracks to spread further, will withstand high temperatures.
Step-by-step guide: how to self-seal the hob, on which a crack or chip appeared.
Tools and materials:
- Silicate glue.
- Silicone
- Rectangular pieces of glass, approximately 4x9 cm.
- Epoxy resin
- Rubber spatula.
- The plate is made of aluminum, the size is selected in accordance with the dimensions of the crack.
Work order:
- The panel must be removed and wiped with a degreasing agent.
- The crack along the entire length should be lubricated with silicate glue.
- Stick the reinforcing elements around the perimeter to places where there are no burners. Sliced pieces of glass can give rigidity to the structure; they are best glued with silicone.
- The missing pieces of glass ceramics are restored using epoxy resin by simple pouring instead of chipping.
- Under the place where the surface cracked, an aluminum plate is glued.
How to remove scratches from the surface of the plate
Glass hob appliances require special care. If you do not follow the instructions for use of the device, scratches may occur on the stove.
You can remove scratches from the plane in the following ways:
- A solution of soda with water, applied to a soft textile towel, should be rubbed in a circular motion. Then the residues are wiped dry with a paper towel. The mixture should not be dry, otherwise the process of removing scratches will lead to the appearance of additional defects on the surface. Before proceeding with the procedure, be sure to unplug the device from the network.
- A cream designed for polishing metals is sold at any hardware store. The product is applied to cotton wool, the entire top layer should be wiped, and the residues should be wiped dry with napkins. Before proceeding with polishing, it is recommended to test the cream in a small area and look at the reaction of the material. With cream, you can use a brush with a soft type of bristle.
If more serious defects occur, it is better to contact a qualified technician. It is recommended to check the warranty period, if it has not expired, you need to photograph the damage and call the service center:
- It will be necessary to call a home repair specialist to conduct an inspection and conclude whether the surface is subject to restoration.
- If the warranty period has not yet expired, the surface must be taken for examination, which will determine the cause of the destructive effect.
- If the defect turned out to be factory, the manufacturer must replace the glass-ceramic element or the entire stove.
- When the warranty is no longer valid, you should visit a service center or repair shop.
