Broadcasting, carried out in analog format, unlike analog television, will not lose its relevance for a long time. In large million-plus cities, about two or three dozen radio stations of various formats are represented - from news to music. In settlements with a small population, you can also “catch” from 3 to 10 radio channels. To listen to your favorite radio broadcasts, you need to purchase a radio with good and high-quality reception, based on the choice of various criteria.

Most of them are powered exclusively by batteries or internal batteries. | 350 – 9900 | |
High-end all-wave radios | Support signal reception in all possible ranges (VHF, HF, HF, SW, LW) | 10000 – 25000 |

Which receiver is better - a figure or analog
Modern radios are divided into 2 large varieties:
- with an analog tuner, radio channel settings (not to be confused with analog broadcasting!);
- with a digital tuner.
To determine which analog receiver to buy, you need to know what it is.
By analog receivers are meant devices, the tuning of frequencies at which occurs through a special wheel (slider). The user twists it in one direction and the other, thereby searching for the desired radio station and changing the “wave”. The current frequency is monitored on a mechanical graduated tuning scale (see picture).
As digital radios, we consider devices whose frequencies are tuned (depending on the model):
- buttons “less - more”, “higher - lower”;
- by entering the desired frequency using the built-in numeric keypad;
- using the slider.
The main difference between “numbers” and “analogs” is the absence in the first case of a mechanical graduated scale, instead of which an electronic display is provided in the radio design, on which certain numbers are displayed (depending on the operating mode in which the radio is currently located):
- either the selected frequency;
- either current time;
- or the time for which the alarm is set, etc.
Choosing a digital or analog radio with good reception depends on the specific needs of the user.
Digital models have the function of memorizing your favorite radio stations and fine tuning, up to tenths of one megahertz. At “analogs”, tuning to the exact frequency is sometimes problematic, and sound quality may decrease due to the fact that the receiver, for example, is tuned to 100.1 MHz instead of 100.0 MHz, on which the radio broadcasts. In addition, each time you have to twist the slider and search for the desired “wave” again with frequent switching from one “wave” to another.
How to choose
The choice of a radio for home, cottage or for use in other places should be based on one, or better, a combination of the following factors:
Factor / selection criteria | Value | Recommendations |
---|---|---|
Type of radio | Figurative | The appropriate type of receiver should be selected depending on where it will primarily be used. For example, when listening to radio programs in most cases outdoors or outside the city, it is better to purchase a portable model. |
Stationary | ||
Alarm clock | ||
Modulation | FM | All modern models support the reception of radio channels in both frequency and amplitude modulation formats. |
AM | ||
Ranges | VHF (ultrashort waves) | Some radios only support the VHF band, which will be acceptable to most listeners. For more “advanced” users who want to receive radio programs from distant transmitters, models with support for short and medium waves are also the best choice. |
HF (shortwave) | ||
NE (medium waves) | ||
LW (long waves) | ||
Headphone jack | Availability | The connector is in most models. |
Lack of | ||
Connecting external playback sources | USB sticks | Great if the receiver will be equipped with additional ports. Then you can upload music to a USB flash drive or SD card |
SD cards | ||
Line input | ||
Nutrition | From batteries | All portable models and some stationary ones have the ability to work on batteries and from the mains, which is convenient - for example, when the power is cut off. |
Off network | ||
From built-in battery | ||
Remote control | Availability | Mid-range models and above can be equipped with remote controls for added user convenience. |
Lack of | ||
Sound power | — | Power is expressed in watts. The larger it is, the louder the receiver will sound |
The choice of the best radio receiver must be carried out not only on the basis of technical characteristics, but also:
- price-quality ratio;
- user reviews posted on aggregators, marketplaces and other unofficial resources;
- the novelty of the model (the date of its first entry into the market);
- warranty period provided by the manufacturer;
- overall dimensions (length, width, height);
- reviews on a specific model from professional reviewers of electronic equipment;
- brand popularity, fame / brand recognition;
- other factors that are, in the opinion of the user, the most important when making a choice.

Internet access is usually provided through a wireless WI-FI network. The receiver has already stored hundreds of addresses of popular radio stations in its memory. It is possible to write to the memory of other radio stations that were not originally there. If you don’t have network access, you can switch to standard FM reception.
